In De Colores means all of us , Elizabeth Martinez says race relations are not merely black and white anymore, she says there are many minorities; and I say those minorities are groupling together, while remaining apart.
It is no surprise that while being viewed as a lesser of a human being different minorities would group together sharing the same feelings and view of the world. But for many the similarities end there.
These couples are both under stress from the environment they live in, and may experience these stresses in a different way. Monoracial couples have a support system from which comes from the ethnicity they both belong to, while interracial couples don't have a system.
It is interesting to know that people still view "race" and this continues to put pressure on couples in interracial relationships.
Studies have shown interracial couples may have higher rates
of marital dissatisfaction. Why? one would assume that and it can be said that in an interracial relationship one partner is thought to have more power in the outside world than inside. For example a Black man with a White woman may feel he has less power than her in the world; because being white automatically gives her some sort of power and control, stresses may evolve from this and create anger, dissatisfaction, and violence.
